Indian Army wraps up multinational peacekeeping exercise Khaan Quest 2026 in Mongolia
The Indian Army has successfully concluded its participation in the 23rd edition of the multinational military exercise Khaan Quest 2026, held from June 20 to July 3 at the Five Hills Training Area in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The exercise brought together more than 1,000 troops from 18 countries, focusing on enhancing interoperability, coordination, and operational readiness for United Nations peace support operations under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
Originally launched as a bilateral exercise between the United States and Mongolia in 2003, Khaan Quest evolved into a multilateral UN peacekeeping exercise in 2006. This year's edition included both Command Post and Field Training components, emphasising UN operational standards, joint planning, and multinational coordination. Participants engaged in simulation-based scenarios and joint drills designed to improve collective response capabilities in peacekeeping missions.
The Indian contingent demonstrated high standards of professionalism, discipline, and operational preparedness throughout the exercise, according to an official statement from the Indian Army. The contingent also showcased India's cultural heritage through a programme that reflected the nation's philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family), promoting mutual respect and understanding among participating nations.
The closing ceremony was attended by Maj. Gen. Baasandamba Dashtseden, Deputy Minister of Defence of Mongolia, and Lt. Gen. Ganbyamba Sunrev, Chief of General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces. Both commended the professionalism and commitment of all participating contingents, highlighting the importance of multinational cooperation in maintaining global peace and security.
The Indian Army expressed gratitude to the Government of Mongolia and the Mongolian Armed Forces for hosting the exercise. The experience gained during Khaan Quest 2026 is expected to strengthen joint operational capabilities, enhance interoperability, and deepen defence cooperation among the participating nations.
Khaan Quest is one of several multinational exercises that India participates in annually, reflecting its commitment to UN peacekeeping and international security. India has historically been one of the largest contributors of troops to UN peacekeeping missions, and exercises like Khaan Quest help maintain a high level of readiness among its forces.
