India-EU Talks: Digital Infrastructure and Clean Energy Take Centre Stage
In a significant diplomatic engagement, Mr Nitin Nabin, a senior Indian official, held discussions with envoys from 23 European Union member states on Monday. The meeting, which took place in New Delhi, focused on two key areas: digital public infrastructure and clean energy cooperation.
According to official sources, the dialogue aimed to strengthen India-EU collaboration in building robust digital ecosystems that are inclusive, secure, and scalable. Both sides acknowledged the importance of digital public goods in driving economic growth and improving citizen services.
On clean energy, discussions revolved around accelerating the transition to renewable sources, sharing best practices in energy efficiency, and exploring joint investments in solar, wind, and hydrogen technologies. The EU envoys expressed interest in India's ambitious target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to deepen the India-EU Strategic Partnership, which was elevated during the 2022 leaders' summit. The talks also touched upon the potential for collaboration in areas such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
No formal agreements were signed, but both sides agreed to continue technical-level consultations to identify specific projects. The engagement reflects a shared commitment to rules-based order and sustainable development.
