India and US Deepen Defence, Trade Ties in High-Level Meetings

India's Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, met U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy on Wednesday to discuss the defence partnership between the two nations. Senator Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, brings a military perspective to the talks, which focused on shared security challenges and strengthening bilateral defence cooperation.

In a post on social media platform X, Ambassador Kwatra expressed appreciation for Senator Sheehy's support for the India-U.S. partnership. He noted that the senator's experience as a combat veteran provides valuable insight into the national security issues both countries face.

Earlier the same day, Ambassador Kwatra also held separate meetings with U.S. Under Secretaries Jeffery Kessler and William Kimmitt at the Department of Commerce. The discussions centred on deepening trade and commercial ties, with particular emphasis on building resilient and secure supply chains across industrial and high-technology sectors.

These engagements come amid a broader effort by both nations to enhance strategic cooperation. India and the U.S. have been expanding their defence relationship through joint exercises, technology sharing, and policy dialogues. The growing economic partnership aims to increase bilateral trade and investment, especially in emerging technologies.

The meetings reflect the continuing momentum in India-U.S. relations, with both sides seeking to align their interests in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
