Hubballi surgeons restore breathing with minimally invasive windpipe surgery
Specialist surgeons at HCG Suchirayu Hospital in Hubballi have successfully treated a 48-year-old patient suffering from severe breathing difficulties due to a narrowed windpipe. The condition, known as post-intubation tracheal stenosis, developed after the patient had been on a ventilator for an extended period.
Dr. Govind Desai, Consultant Interventional Pulmonologist, told reporters on June 30 that the team performed an advanced airway intervention called electrosurgery with balloon bronchoplasty. The minimally invasive procedure used a bronchoscope to identify the narrowed segment of the trachea. Controlled electrosurgical radial incisions were made to release scar tissue causing the obstruction, followed by balloon dilation to restore normal airflow.
The patient, a resident of Hubballi, had been experiencing severe breathing difficulties that significantly reduced his quality of life. After the surgery, he recovered well and was discharged the following day in stable condition with marked relief in symptoms, Dr. Desai said.
The Chief Operating Officer of HCG Suchirayu Hospital stated that the successful management of this complex airway condition reflects the hospital's commitment to providing advanced medical expertise and technology to patients in north Karnataka.
