Historic Moldova Visit: India, Moldova Discuss UNSC Reforms and Counter-Terrorism

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Chisinau on Wednesday for a state visit to Moldova, marking the first visit by an Indian head of state to the Eastern European country since diplomatic relations were established in 1992.

During bilateral talks with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, the two leaders discussed reforms of multilateral organisations, including the United Nations Security Council, and cooperation in the fight against terrorism, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

President Murmu and President Sandu explored new avenues of cooperation in trade and investment, digital transformation, information technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education, culture, and capacity building, the MEA said in a statement.

The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Moldova, both of which share common interests in promoting global peace and security. India has consistently advocated for reforms in the UN Security Council to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities, and Moldova has supported this position.
