Heavy Rain Alert: IMD Forecasts Downpour in Five Telangana Districts on Sunday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall forecast for five districts in Telangana for Sunday, August 23. According to the latest IMD bulletin, heavy rain is very likely to occur in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhulpally, and Mulugu districts.

In addition to heavy rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected at isolated places across a broader swath of the state. This includes Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar districts.

For Hyderabad city and its surrounding areas, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky over the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The IMD issues such alerts as part of its routine monsoon monitoring to help state authorities and residents prepare for potentially disruptive weather. August is typically a peak monsoon month for Telangana, and heavy rainfall can lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and temporary disruptions in normal life. In some low-lying areas, there may be a risk of localised flooding. Lightning and gusty winds also pose safety hazards, particularly for those in open spaces or near tall structures.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay informed through official weather bulletins and follow any advisories issued by local authorities. It is prudent to avoid unnecessary travel during intense downpours, stay away from waterlogged areas, and take precautions against lightning strikes by seeking safe shelter indoors when thunderstorms occur.

District administrations often remain on alert during such forecasts, with disaster response teams ready to handle any emergency. The IMD continues to update its forecasts as weather conditions evolve, and the public is encouraged to check for revised warnings if they plan to travel or engage in outdoor activities.

This forecast is part of the IMD's regular service to provide early warning of hazardous weather, aiming to minimise the impact on life and property. While heavy rain can bring relief from hot and humid conditions, it also requires careful attention to safety measures.

Authorities have urged farmers and the general public to remain vigilant, as sudden wind gusts and lightning can damage crops and uproot trees. Power supply disruptions, though usually temporary, may occur in some areas. Emergency helplines are operational in all districts, and residents can contact local control rooms for assistance if needed.

The IMD’s alert underscores the importance of weather preparedness during the monsoon season. By staying aware of the latest forecasts and adhering to official guidance, communities can reduce the risks associated with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
