Heavy Overnight Rain Triggers Flooding, Power Outages in West Hyderabad
In the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, 2026, heavy overnight rainfall caused significant waterlogging and power failures in the western parts of Hyderabad, disrupting daily life for residents. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Kethireddypalli near Moinabad recorded 12.9 cm of rainfall, while Chandanagar logged 12.7 cm and Lingampally recorded 11.7 cm up to 5 a.m. These figures are classified as very heavy rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a heavy rainfall warning for four districts in Telangana on Tuesday: Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Medak and Kamareddy. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in these areas.
In addition, the IMD has issued an Orange alert for Mumbai, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall. The onset of the southwest monsoon over the city is anticipated on Tuesday.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rain are also predicted for several districts in Arunachal Pradesh, including West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, West Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Namsai.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to exercise caution and stay updated with local weather advisories. The rainfall, while disruptive, is part of the seasonal monsoon pattern that is crucial for the region's agriculture and water supply.
