Heatwave Sets New Temperature Records Across Europe

A severe heatwave sweeping across Europe has shattered temperature records in multiple countries, affecting an estimated 150 million people. Germany recorded its highest-ever temperature for a second consecutive day, reaching 41.5°C in Möckern-Drewitz, Saxony-Anhalt, according to the German Meteorological Service. This surpassed the previous record of 41.3°C set just a day earlier in Saarbrücken.

Denmark and the Czech Republic also set new national highs as the heatwave moved north and east. The World Meteorological Organization has warned of "major impacts" on health and ecosystems. The heatwave, which began in the Iberian Peninsula, has been linked to hundreds of deaths over the past week.

In Berlin, police deployed water cannons to spray cooling mist on the public. German politician Katrin Goering-Eckardt described the heat as "a health crisis," urging people to take precautions. Authorities across affected regions have issued health advisories, recommending hydration and avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours.
