First Low Pressure System of Monsoon Season to Bring Widespread Rain over Western and Central India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the formation of the season's first low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen monsoon activity and bring widespread rainfall across western and central India over the next four to five days.
According to the IMD, the low pressure area is likely to move across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh in the coming days. This system has already contributed to steady and heavy rainfall in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, and surrounding areas, over the past two to three days.
Low-lying areas in these cities have experienced waterlogging and flooding. On Friday, the Ghats of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan recorded over 200 mm of rain, while parts of Saurashtra received 570 mm in 24 hours, leading to submersion of several regions.
The IMD has advised residents in affected areas to remain cautious and take necessary precautions as the rain is expected to continue. The monsoon's progress is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued as the system evolves.
