ED Questions TV Host Shefali Bagga in Mahadev Betting App Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday questioned television host Shefali Bagga at its office in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, in connection with the Mahadev online betting app case, officials said.
According to agency sources, Bagga is believed to be an associate of a man who is alleged to run and promote betting applications in the country. She was not available for comment after the questioning.
The Mahadev betting app case is a major investigation by the ED into an international betting syndicate that allegedly operated through multiple online platforms. The agency has estimated that the proceeds of crime generated by the syndicate amount to approximately Rs 6,000 crore.
The case has drawn attention because the ED has stated that it involves high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh. However, no specific names have been officially released in connection with Bagga's questioning.
Shefali Bagga is known as a television host and has appeared on various news channels. The nature of her association with the alleged promoter of the betting apps is under investigation.
The ED's investigation into the Mahadev app began after complaints of illegal betting and money laundering. The app is alleged to have been used to facilitate bets on sports and other events, with operations spread across multiple countries.
This is the latest development in a series of actions by the ED against illegal betting platforms in India. The agency has previously conducted raids and questioned several individuals linked to such operations.
As of now, no charges have been formally filed against Bagga, and the investigation continues.
