Delhi opens tech-enabled public library with 35,000 books and 1 crore e-books
The Jayaprakash Narayan Public Library, inaugurated on Saturday on Udyan Marg in Delhi under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), combines traditional library features with modern technology. The library houses 35,000 physical books across two floors and provides digital access to nearly one crore e-books.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the facility, which includes sections on science, mathematics, Indian history, Hindi literature, geography, agriculture, and competitive examinations. The library offers RFID self-issue kiosks, facial recognition membership, and dedicated study spaces for students and researchers.
The interior features blue cushioned chairs and glass dividers between reading seats. Facilities include a children's zone, research rooms, a contemporary reading area, and an e-library with computer terminals. The library aims to serve the reading and research needs of Delhi residents, blending the charm of traditional libraries with digital convenience.
