Delhi Metro Gets Green Light: 12.3-km Underground Corridor Linking Inderlok to Indraprastha Begins
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commenced construction of a 12.3-kilometre underground corridor between Inderlok and Indraprastha, extending the Magenta Line. The project aims to improve connectivity between Outer Delhi and key areas in Central Delhi, including ITO, Indraprastha, and New Delhi.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the work on Thursday. Officials stated that construction of a diaphragm wall has begun at Sarai Rohilla Metro station, marking the first phase of the project.
The fully underground corridor will have 10 stations: Inderlok, Daya Basti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Jhandewalan Temple, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya-IG Stadium, and Indraprastha. Once completed, it will provide seamless connectivity for commuters travelling between northwest and central parts of the city.
DMRC officials noted that the corridor is part of the broader expansion of the city's metro network, which currently spans over 390 kilometres. The project is expected to ease congestion on road networks and reduce travel time for thousands of daily passengers.
