Delhi Data Centre Fire Destroys 20 Years of Data, Disrupts Google Cloud Services

A fire at a data centre in Delhi, jointly operated by Tata Communications and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, has caused extensive damage, leading to significant data loss and service disruptions, according to a Reuters report.

The blaze broke out at approximately 2:47 am on June 5, 2026, at a five-storey building opposite Savitri Cinema in Delhi. The fire was concentrated on the third floor, which housed Tata Communications' office and server infrastructure.

The severity of the fire resulted in complete destruction of server racks and electrical infrastructure. Ceiling panels collapsed, and debris was scattered across the floor. The damage has been described as catastrophic for the data centre's clients.

One of the affected clients, an Indian international SIM cards seller, reported the loss of two decades of data. The company faces losses amounting to millions of dollars, and many customers may not return. Another major client affected is Google Cloud, whose network connection issues have been allegedly traced to this fire. Google has not officially commented on the incident.

The data centre was a critical hub for several businesses, and the outage has impacted services beyond the immediate clients. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, and no casualties have been reported.

Tata Communications and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident or the extent of data loss. The incident highlights the vulnerability of digital infrastructure and the importance of robust disaster recovery plans.
