Delhi Building Collapse: Third Body Found, Owners Booked for Negligence
Two days after a four-storey building collapsed in Delhi's Rohini area, rescue workers recovered two more bodies from the debris on Thursday, taking the death toll to three. The collapse occurred on Wednesday evening during heavy rainfall, triggering a large-scale rescue operation under the Delhi Police and local authorities.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Dua and Kafe. According to police, Ram Dua's wife and daughter-in-law are the owners of the plots on which the buildings were being constructed. Kafe was a labourer working at the site, and his brother was the contractor overseeing the construction.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of culpable homicide and negligent conduct during construction or repair. The accused are the owners of the property. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
The incident took place in Sector 16 of Rohini, northwest Delhi. Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise as the building gave way, trapping several workers beneath the rubble. Rescue teams including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to search for survivors. However, as of Thursday evening, no additional survivors have been found.
This collapse highlights concerns over building safety and adherence to construction norms in the city. Local residents have demanded stricter enforcement of regulations to prevent such tragedies. The building was reportedly under construction, and it remains unclear whether the owners had obtained necessary approvals.
Authorities have advised citizens to report any illegal or unsafe construction activities. The rescue operation has concluded, and efforts are now focused on clearing the debris and conducting a thorough investigation.
