Court Permits CID to Collect Abhishek Banerjee's Voice Sample in DJ Remark Case

The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has received court permission to collect a voice sample from Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in connection with a case stemming from his remark about DJs playing music during the 2021 Assembly election results.

The Bidhannagar court on Wednesday granted the CID's application, filed a day earlier, to obtain Banerjee's voice sample. The court has scheduled the recording for June 30, requiring Banerjee to appear in person. A magistrate and forensic experts will be present during the process.

The case originates from a comment Banerjee made during the election campaign, in which he said, "The DJs will play…will play so loudly, it will make your ears ring!" A complaint was later filed against the remark, alleging it was inflammatory or violated election laws. Banerjee has already been questioned at the CID headquarters in connection with the case.

The voice sample will be used for forensic analysis to verify the authenticity of the statement. The investigation is ongoing.
