Congress Vows to Oppose Delimitation Bill, Unite Opposition in Monsoon Session
The Congress party has announced its agenda for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on Monday. The party plans to raise several issues, including the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple, ethanol-blended fuels, and recent question paper leaks, according to Jairam Ramesh, the party's communication in-charge.
Speaking after a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party in New Delhi on Thursday, Ramesh stated that the party would also work to unite opposition parties against any delimitation Bill that the government may introduce. Delimitation refers to the redrawing of Lok Sabha constituencies based on population changes, which could affect the political representation of various states.
Ramesh claimed that the government had failed to pass the delimitation Bill in the previous session and that Parliament had extensive discussions on the matter. He asserted that the Congress would oppose the Bill, arguing that it could be used to reduce the influence of opposition parties.
The meeting was chaired by former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and was attended by Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Rajya Sabha Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, and other senior MPs. The party's strategy for the session was discussed in detail.
In addition to the delimitation Bill, the Congress plans to raise concerns over the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The party has called for a full investigation into the matter. Other issues include the government's push for ethanol-blended fuels, which the Congress says could impact food security, and the recent leaks of question papers for competitive exams, which have affected thousands of students.
The monsoon session is expected to be contentious, with the opposition likely to challenge the government on multiple fronts. The Congress has indicated that it will use all parliamentary tools to ensure that these issues are debated thoroughly.
