Congress Rally in Nanded Criticises PM Modi, CM Fadnavis on Farmer Issues
The Maharashtra Congress party held a rally named 'Asud Morcha' in Nanded district on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, to highlight the plight of farmers. Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal led the event, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of failing to address farmers' concerns.
Speaking at the rally, Mr. Sapkal claimed that agricultural produce prices have fallen since Mr. Modi became Prime Minister, alleging that the Prime Minister had not fulfilled his promise to double farmers' income. He also criticised Mr. Modi's foreign policy, stating that the Prime Minister had 'bowed down to America' and was following the directives of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Mr. Sapkal enumerated several promises made by Mr. Modi during the 2014 elections, including providing one and a half times the cost of agricultural products, doubling farmers' income, building 100 smart cities, creating two crore jobs annually, and selling petrol-diesel at ₹40 per litre and gas cylinders at ₹400. He asserted that these promises had not been kept.
The Congress chief also alleged that the BJP government was transferring ownership of farmers' land to industrialists Adani and Ambani, and that the government was working only for them rather than for the Bahujan Samaj, the poor, and farmers. He further accused the government of undermining democracy and the Constitution.
Referring to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mr. Sapkal called him a 'so-called divine power' who could not resolve farmers' problems but could break opposition parties. The rally was attended by several Congress leaders, including Nanded North District Congress Committee President Ravindra Chavan and Nanded South District President Vitthal Pawade.
