Children's Welfare to Be Government's Top Priority, Assures Minister Bindhu Krishna
In a clear commitment to child welfare, Minister for Women and Child Development Bindhu Krishna announced on Saturday that addressing children's issues will be the foremost priority of the government. Speaking at the inauguration of the Onam celebration organised by her department at Anchalummoodu Children's Home, she assured residents of the facility that they could approach her directly with any problem.
The Minister encouraged the children to face life's challenges with courage and confidence, emphasising that the government would provide all necessary facilities to nurture their talents. She urged them to excel not only in academics but also in extra-curricular activities such as reading, writing, painting, music, and dance.
Promising immediate intervention to address any deficiencies or inconveniences in children's homes, Minister Bindhu Krishna said that children could also write to her personally about any issues they face. This direct line of communication, she noted, would ensure that problems are resolved without delay.
The event also saw participation from District Panchayat President R. Latha Devi, District Collector Annie Jula Thomas, Sub-Judge Rekha Laurel, and State Commission for Protection of Child Rights acting chairperson Sicily Joseph. Each of them spoke on the occasion, underscoring the collective responsibility of various institutions in safeguarding children's rights and well-being.
Children's homes across the state serve as temporary or long-term residences for children in need of care and protection. These institutions are mandated to provide education, healthcare, and emotional support. The Minister's remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the Department of Women and Child Development to strengthen the quality of care in such facilities, with a focus on rehabilitation and holistic development.
