Chennai Police Visit Former Minister's Brother's Residence in Tax Probe

As part of an ongoing investigation into a 2023 case, a special team from Karur district police visited a residence in Chennai linked to Ashok Kumar, brother of former Minister V. Senthilbalaji, on Saturday.

The team, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police, arrived at a house on Kasturi Avenue in MRC Nagar, Foreshore Estate, based on information that Ashok Kumar had previously resided there. Upon arrival, officers learned he no longer lived at the premises. They questioned nearby residents before leaving.

The investigation stems from complaints by Income Tax officials during raids conducted in May 2023 on premises associated with Senthilbalaji, Ashok Kumar, and their associates in Chennai, Karur, and Coimbatore. Officials alleged they faced resistance from a group of individuals and that a vehicle belonging to an Income Tax officer was damaged.

Following a complaint from the Income Tax officer, Karur Town police registered a case against 50 unidentified persons for obstructing public servants and assaulting government officials. Further investigation is under way.
