CEC Gyanesh Kumar: India's electoral process world's most transparent

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Monday stated that India's electoral process is the most transparent among the world's major democracies. He made the remarks during a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, where he interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in central Kashmir's Budgam district.

"I had an interaction with the pillars of democracy, the Booth level workers in Budgam… We discussed that preparation of voter lists, voting and vote counting are part of the world's most transparent electoral process," Kumar said. He added that all these stages are concurrently audited by political parties or candidates.

Kumar also noted that after the 2026 electoral process, India is now leading the largest democratic countries and serves as the chairperson of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA). He arrived in Srinagar on Sunday.

The Election Commission routinely conducts such visits to engage with ground-level election staff and assess preparedness. Kumar's comments come amid ongoing electoral reforms and preparations for future elections.
