CCB Summons Ex-Minister Sivasankar in Rs 23 Lakh Job Fraud Probe

The Job Fraud Investigation Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) has summoned former Tamil Nadu Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar, a DMK member, to appear before investigators on Wednesday in connection with an alleged recruitment fraud. The case involves a promise of employment in the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC).

The summons was served at Mr. Sivasankar’s residence as part of the probe into a complaint filed by S. Srinivasan, a 65-year-old retired Special Sub-Inspector of Police. According to the complaint, Mr. Srinivasan was allegedly cheated of Rs 23 lakh on the assurance of securing an Assistant Engineer’s post for his son in the MTC.

The development comes days after the arrest of L. Ilanchezhiyan, 60, in Erode by a special CCB team. Investigators said Ilanchezhiyan claimed to have close political connections with Mr. Sivasankar and collected the money from Mr. Srinivasan in several instalments between 2023 and 2025. The complainant alleged that neither the job was secured nor the money returned.

During Ilanchezhiyan’s arrest, police recovered two identity cards from his possession as evidence. Investigators also sealed his residence in Ariyalur district. The Job Fraud Investigation Wing has moved the Egmore Magistrate Court seeking seven days’ police custody of the accused for further interrogation.

Following Ilanchezhiyan’s arrest, Mr. Sivasankar issued a statement on social media denying any association with the accused, stating that Ilanchezhiyan had never worked as his personal assistant. Police sources confirmed that the complainant named the former minister in the complaint, prompting the summons. Mr. Sivasankar is required to appear before the investigating officer for an inquiry.
