CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation: Students report unresolved discrepancies despite board claims
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has faced continued scrutiny over its Class 12 examination re-evaluation process, as several students report delays and unresolved issues with their revised marks.
Vedant Shrivastava, a Class 12 student whose case drew national attention, says he has not received his re-evaluation result weeks after applying. CBSE had stated that approximately 87% of re-evaluation results had been announced, but Vedant and others remain without updates.
Earlier, Vedant's request for a copy of his Physics answer script during the review process revealed a mix-up: he received another student's answer sheet. After he shared this online, many students came forward with similar complaints of discrepancies, unawarded marks, and answer-sheet errors.
CBSE later provided a document that it said was Vedant's actual answer script. However, observers noted that the paper bore red-ink markings typical of manual evaluation, even though CBSE uses digital On-Screen Marking (OSM). This raised questions about the board's evaluation methods.
Beyond delays, some students who received their re-evaluated results report that their concerns were not addressed adequately. Harshit Gupta, a Commerce student from Gurgaon, received zero credit for answers in Physical Education that he believes were correct. His teachers encouraged him to apply for re-evaluation, but his score of 73% remained unchanged in that subject. He said his answers, including one on the benefits of yoga asanas, seemed to match accepted explanations but still earned no marks.
Harshit acknowledged that some deductions in Accountancy might have been valid judgment calls, but he felt that subjective answers in Physical Education were not evaluated fairly. His final score was lower than his consistent school performance, reinforcing his belief that the re-evaluation process did not address the issues he raised.
CBSE has not commented on individual cases. The board previously stated that it is working to resolve all pending re-evaluation results and has urged students to contact support for specific queries.
The ongoing concerns highlight the need for greater transparency and consistency in the CBSE re-evaluation system. While the board has made efforts to address the backlog, students like Vedant and Harshit continue to seek resolution through official channels.
