Several students, 2 teachers injured as lorry hits overloaded school auto in Medak
Several school students and two teachers were injured on Monday evening when a lorry rammed into an overloaded school autorickshaw on a highway near Ramayampet in Medak district, police said.
The accident occurred at around 4.25 p.m. when the autorickshaw, belonging to Kasturba School, was ferrying students to their homes in Nimzampet and Nangidama villages. Police said the lorry, registered as AP 24 TA 7776, allegedly hit the auto from behind, causing it to crash into a roadside railing.
The autorickshaw was carrying 17 occupants, including students, teachers and the driver. Police noted that the vehicle was overloaded, as it was permitted to carry only four persons, including the driver.
All the injured were shifted to Siddipet Government Hospital for treatment. Four students sustained fractures, while several others, including two teachers, suffered injuries. The condition of the injured was reported to be stable.
Police have booked the lorry driver, identified as Shaik Aslam, in connection with the accident. They also said the autorickshaw driver, Naveen, is likely to be booked for negligence and overloading following further investigation.
