Bus plunges into ravine in northwest Pakistan, killing 40 including women and children
At least 40 people, including women and children, were killed when a passenger bus veered off a mountainous road and fell into a ravine in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, on Friday, officials reported.
The accident occurred as the bus, travelling from Balochistan’s Sherani district to Peshawar, entered Dera Ismail Khan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Rescue teams recovered the bodies and transported eight injured passengers to a nearby hospital, authorities said.
Preliminary reports suggest the bus’s brakes may have failed while navigating a sharp curve on the treacherous terrain. An official investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause, officials added.
Road accidents are common in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to difficult topography, harsh weather conditions, and frequent traffic violations. The province has witnessed several such tragedies in the past.
