BJP President Nitin Nabin Slams Punjab Government Over Law and Order, Drug Menace, Youth Exodus
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Monday criticised the Punjab government, stating that the state's deteriorating law and order situation, rising gangsterism, drug menace, and youth migration have become serious concerns for both the state and the nation.
Addressing a meeting of BJP state office-bearers, current and former Members of Parliament, MLAs, and district party presidents in Ludhiana, Mr. Nabin urged party workers to dedicate themselves to establishing a 'double engine' government in Punjab to free the state from these challenges. He drew a parallel to the party's efforts in West Bengal, where sustained work led to political transformation.
The BJP president was on a three-day visit to Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. He remarked, 'In West Bengal, we saw that the government plus goonda culture had become a major problem for the people. Similarly, Punjab is witnessing the rise of a government plus corporate culture, where ordinary citizens are allegedly forced to pay money to get their legitimate work done.'
Mr. Nabin emphasised that the BJP must confront this corrupt nexus through sustained public struggle and establish a 'double engine' government, without which the political and industrial revival of Punjab would remain difficult. He stressed that expanding the party organisation is a collective responsibility of all party leaders, not just the state president or organisation general secretary.
He also advised the party to soon launch a statewide campaign against the drug network that has spread across Punjab.
