BJP chief Nitin Nabin leads strategy meet for 2027 Assembly elections
BJP president Nitin Nabin on Sunday (August 23, 2026) chaired a strategy meeting at the party headquarters in New Delhi, focusing on organisational matters and preparations for the Assembly elections due in several States in 2027. The meeting was attended by newly appointed national office-bearers, State unit presidents, and key functionaries, along with those in charge of the BJP's State units. BJP national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh was also present.
The discussions are understood to have centred on strengthening grassroots outreach and enhancing the party's connect with young voters, particularly in States going to polls next year. Sources said the meeting was part of a series of organisational exercises aimed at fine-tuning the party's election machinery. The agenda included assessing the political situation in each of the poll-bound States and reviewing the progress of ongoing membership and outreach drives.
Assembly elections are scheduled in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat in 2027. The BJP is currently in power in five of these States, with the Aam Aadmi Party ruling Punjab and the Congress in Himachal Pradesh. These polls are significant as they will test the party's organisational strength and its ability to retain power in key States like Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, which have large electoral college.
There was no official statement from the BJP on what transpired in the meeting. However, a source told PTI, "It is a crucial meeting to discuss a range of organisational matters with prime focus on the party's preparations and strategy for the upcoming elections in States next year."
The meeting came a day after Mr. Nabin held his first meeting with all newly appointed national office-bearers on Saturday (August 22, 2026). Former office-bearers of the national team were also present. After the day-long meeting concluded, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the BJP headquarters and interacted with all 67 newly appointed national office-bearers. The interaction lasted for more than five hours, according to sources.
In a post on social media, Mr. Modi described the meetings as centred on "new ideas and perspectives aimed at strengthening the party and deepening the connection with the people." He said, "Great interaction with fellow party colleagues and the new organisational team." Sources said Mr. Modi listened to each office-bearer attentively and offered "vital suggestions". He reportedly urged the new office-bearers to increase outreach to the youth and emphasised the need to stay grounded and engage in greater on-the-ground activity.
The Saturday meeting also passed a 10-point resolution criticising the Congress for its decision to sing only two stanzas of Vande Mataram at its events. The resolution asserted that the BJP would launch a nationwide campaign to spread the significance of the full version of the national song. It said, "A political compromise of 1937 cannot be elevated above the constitutional settlement of 1950 and legislation enacted by Parliament in 2026." The party resolved to educate and mobilise people, especially the younger generation, so that "the sacrifices, struggles and patriotic awakening with which Vande Mataram is inseparably associated" are not forgotten.
The BJP also reminded the Congress that a resolution of its working committee cannot override constitutional institutions or laws of India. The party said it would ensure that all six stanzas of the national song and its history are widely known and respected.
