Bengaluru Semiconductor Park to Become Operational by December, Says Minister
The Karnataka government has announced that a 200-acre semiconductor park in Phase I of the Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation (KWIN) City near Bengaluru is expected to become operational by December this year. Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil made this statement while addressing the 15th Strategic Electronics Summit-2026 on July 23.
Patil said the upcoming Aerospace and Defence Policy 2026-2031 will focus on developing integrated clusters for advanced electronic warfare systems, embedded software, electric vertical take-off and landing (e-VTOL) technologies, and payloads for the space sector.
He also noted that the state government had approved investments worth ₹23,000 crore in the semiconductor and advanced Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors two years ago. These investments are expected to generate more than 3,500 high-skilled engineering jobs. Key investors include Applied Materials India (₹4,851 crore), Lam Research (₹15,901 crore), and Bharat Semi Systems (₹2,342 crore).
Patil added that the government aims to integrate the state’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) into the global semiconductor supply chain to complement these investments. Karnataka’s vision extends beyond manufacturing to encompass the entire value chain—from design and development to prototyping, testing, certification, and exports.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar highlighted that Karnataka produces over one lakh engineers annually from 250 engineering colleges, calling it a manufacturing hub for human resources. He noted that the state has more than 900 Global Capability Centers (GCC) and that Google’s largest campus outside the United States is in Bengaluru.
