Bengaluru civic body files complaint over crematorium slot booking fraud

The Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) has lodged a police complaint against several unauthorised websites accused of charging inflated fees for booking slots at two electric crematoriums under its jurisdiction.

The two crematoriums, located at Hebbal and Medi Agrahara, have a fixed cremation charge of Rs 250, set by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). However, individuals arriving at these facilities reported paying between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 for booking slots, prompting an inquiry.

Rajendra, Executive Engineer of BNCC, stated that the fraud came to light when citizens who had booked slots mentioned paying thousands of rupees. “Upon checking, we found that these websites were fleecing money and booking on behalf of the public. The public can book slots for Rs 250 at the official website,” he said.

The BNCC has urged the public to use only the official booking portal to avoid being overcharged. The police are investigating the matter, and the civic body has warned that legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
