Apollo Cancer Centres Treats Five Blood Cancer Patients with Advanced CAR-T Therapy
Apollo Cancer Centres in Visakhapatnam has successfully completed Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy in five patients suffering from relapsed and refractory blood cancers, marking a significant step in advanced cancer treatment in India.
CAR-T therapy is a form of immunotherapy that modifies a patient's own T-cells to recognize and attack cancer cells. It is used when conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation have failed.
The five cases were led by Dr. Rakesh Reddy Boya, Senior Medical and Haemato-Oncologist at Apollo Cancer Centres, supported by a multidisciplinary team including critical care, transfusion medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and laboratory services.
Each patient underwent a thorough evaluation, a rigorous preparatory protocol, and intensive post-infusion monitoring, reflecting the centre's high standards of patient safety and clinical precision.
This achievement brings hope to patients with relapsed or refractory blood cancers who have limited treatment options. The success of these five cases demonstrates the potential for CAR-T therapy to be expanded to more patients in India.
Further details about patient outcomes and long-term follow-up are awaited.
