6.1-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Afghanistan, Tremors Felt in Delhi
A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck northeastern Afghanistan on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with tremors felt as far as Delhi, according to seismic monitoring agencies.
The earthquake's epicentre was located 43 kilometres south of Jurm in northeastern Afghanistan, at a depth of 208.3 kilometres, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
Tremors were also felt across the border in neighbouring Pakistan, particularly in the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Residents reported rushing out of their homes as the ground shook for several seconds.
In Delhi, many people in high-rise buildings felt the tremors, but no panic or damage was reported. Authorities have not issued any alerts.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage in either Afghanistan or Pakistan. Officials are monitoring the situation.
Afghanistan lies in a seismically active region, where earthquakes are common. The depth of this quake likely reduced the potential for surface damage.
