4 arrested for harassing election officer during Delhi voter roll revision
New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested four men for allegedly obstructing and harassing a Booth Level Officer (BLO) during a special revision of electoral rolls in the Phatak Teliyan area of Old Delhi. The incident occurred on July 5, 2026, but the case was registered on July 15 after the officer approached the Additional District Magistrate, police said on July 16.
The complainant, a postgraduate teacher serving as a BLO, stated that while conducting house-to-house verification, one of the accused placed the official register on her lap and signed it despite her objections. The others allegedly used abusive language, refused to accept enumeration forms, and prevented her from performing her duties.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Sabreen (44), Ateeq ur Rehman (58), Mohammad Asif (50), and Mohammad Aftab (44), all residents of Turkman Gate. They were arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including obstructing a public servant, assault on a public servant, and insulting the modesty of a woman.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh explained that the delay in filing the complaint was because the BLO first consulted senior officers before approaching the police. The special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls began on June 30 and will continue until August 8, 2026.
