West Bengal: Third FIR Against Abhishek Banerjee Over Alleged Medical Negligence in Health Camp
Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has been named in a third First Information Report (FIR) following allegations of medical negligence at a health camp run under his initiative. The complaint was filed by a woman who claims she lost her leg after receiving treatment at a Sebaashray health camp in West Bengal.
The woman, identified as Maloti Biswas from Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, approached the police a few days ago. According to her complaint, she attended a Sebaashray camp a couple of months ago for knee pain and was prescribed medication. Her condition worsened, prompting her to visit another Sebaashray camp. There, she alleged, doctors demanded a large sum of money for further treatment. When she refused, she was referred to a government hospital.
At the government medical college hospital, doctors determined that the damage to her right leg was irreversible and subsequently amputated it, as per the complaint.
An official at the Rabindranagar police station confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Abhishek Banerjee and others based on the complaint. The investigation is ongoing.
Sebaashray is a healthcare outreach initiative launched by Banerjee on January 2, 2026, while the Trinamool Congress was in power in the state. This is the third FIR filed against the Diamond Harbour MP in connection with alleged irregularities in these health camps. The earlier two cases are also under investigation.
The development comes amid heightened political scrutiny in the state, with opposition parties questioning the governance of health initiatives. The police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the latest case.
