Visakhapatnam Hit by Heavy Rain: Waterlogging Disrupts Traffic and Daily Life

Visakhapatnam experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms on the night of June 20, 2026. The downpour brought relief from the prevailing heat but also led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, causing traffic disruptions and inconvenience for residents.

Rainfall was widespread across the core city, with major roads and junctions inundated. Beach Road, a key thoroughfare, saw waterlogging at multiple points, making travel difficult for both motorists and pedestrians. The green mats laid out for the Yogandhra event scheduled on Beach Road on June 21 were reported to have been washed away.

Water stagnation was reported in several localities including One Town, Maharanipeta, China Waltair, Gajuwaka, Seethammadhara, and MVP Colony. Rainwater entered the premises of the III Town Police Station. Stormwater drains overflowed due to the intensity of the rain, leading to flooding on roads and junctions.

Traffic moved slowly as vehicles cautiously navigated waterlogged stretches. Residents in low-lying areas faced difficulties as rainwater accumulated on streets and near residential colonies. Pedestrians were forced to take detours in many places due to inundated roads.

According to rainfall data from the government portal, the Jail Area recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 56 mm, followed by Seethammadhara with 53 mm. RK Beach received 47.08 mm, while Anandapuram recorded 24.5 mm.
