VHP urges SIT to record statements of Opposition leaders on Ram Temple donation allegations

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has formally requested the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged theft of offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya to record the statements of several Opposition leaders who have publicly made allegations of financial irregularities at the temple.

In a letter dated July 4, 2026, the VHP named Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, and MPs Sanjay Singh and Ram Gopal Yadav among those whose statements should be recorded. The organisation argued that these leaders’ public comments suggest they may have knowledge of the alleged irregularities.

The VHP stated that recording their statements would help clarify the factual basis of their allegations, the source of their information, and any documents or materials they possess to support their claims. The organisation further urged the SIT to take legal action if any allegations are found to be made without supporting evidence.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, speaking to journalists in Kerala’s Wayanad, described the alleged theft of donations as “tragic” and “shameful”. She said, “People from all over the country, those who believe and those who have faith, gave donations, and now those donations have been stolen. It is tragic, it is shameful, and the government needs to inquire into what has happened, how it has happened, and why it has happened.”

The SIT was constituted earlier this year to investigate reports of missing donation boxes and discrepancies in the accounting of offerings at the Ram temple. The investigation is ongoing.
