Uttar Pradesh Assembly: SP Legislators Protest Over Temple Donations and Paper Leaks

Samajwadi Party (SP) legislators staged a protest on the premises of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday, August 3, 2026, raising demands for a transparent investigation into the reported theft of donations meant for the Ram temple and strict action against those responsible for examination paper leaks.

The protesting MLAs and MLCs held placards with slogans such as “NEET hai ya cheat hai” (Is it NEET or cheat) and “Daan ka paisa kahan milega, BJP ke khate me” (Donation money will be found in the BJP's account). They alleged that the state government was attempting to suppress the truth in the Ram temple donation matter and called for a fair probe.

Holding a donation box, the legislators claimed that the BJP had “betrayed the faith of devotees” and demanded accountability over the funds contributed for temple construction. They also expressed concern that devotees were losing confidence and urged the government to ensure a transparent investigation.

Beyond the temple issue, the SP legislators raised several other public concerns, including paper leaks, unemployment, inflation, fertiliser shortage, floods, and alleged irregularities in reservation. They demanded that these matters be discussed in the House.

The legislators also accused the government of shortening the duration of the Monsoon session to avoid debate on issues affecting citizens. They pointed out that incidents of examination paper leaks had adversely impacted students and demanded punishment for those responsible.

The protest took place on the first day of the four-day Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, which began on Monday. The SP legislators said they would continue to press for dialogue on these issues during the session.
