UP Floods: 173 Villages Hit, Over 4,800 Evacuated as Authorities Monitor Situation
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh administration is keeping a close watch on the flood situation as 173 villages across several districts remain affected by rising water levels. According to official reports, more than 4,800 people have been shifted to safer locations so far, with relief teams deployed to assist those impacted.
The floods, triggered by heavy monsoon rainfall and rising river levels, have submerging low-lying areas, affecting normal life. The affected villages are spread across districts including Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, and Barabanki, among others. District administrations have set up relief camps and are providing food, drinking water, and medical aid to displaced families.
Officials said that the water levels in major rivers, including the Ghaghra, Saryu, and Rapti, are being monitored continuously. While no major loss of life has been reported so far, the administration remains on alert given the ongoing rainfall forecast.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are stationed in vulnerable areas to carry out rescue and relief operations. Boats have been deployed for evacuation and for ferrying essential supplies to marooned villages.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reviewed the situation and directed officials to ensure timely relief and proper sanitation in affected areas to prevent waterborne diseases. The health department has been asked to keep medical teams ready and distribute chlorine tablets and other preventive medicines.
Local authorities are also undertaking damage assessment to facilitate compensation for affected families. The revenue department has been instructed to expedite the process of disbursing relief amounts.
Farmers in the affected regions are worried about standing crops being damaged, which could add to their distress. The agriculture department has been asked to assess crop losses and provide assistance under existing schemes.
Authorities have appealed to residents in low-lying areas to cooperate with evacuation orders and move to safer locations. Meanwhile, the flood control room is functioning round-the-clock to receive distress calls and coordinate rescue efforts.
As the monsoon season continues, officials said that all necessary precautions are being taken to minimise the impact of floods and ensure the safety of citizens.
