Udhayanidhi Stalin Calls MLA Resignations a Betrayal, Accuses Ruling Party of Poaching

Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, on Monday strongly criticised the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) following the resignation of six AIADMK MLAs. He described the resignations as a betrayal of the people and alleged that the ruling party was engaging in what he termed 'poaching politics'.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Stalin said the resignations exposed the extreme measures taken by the ruling party to consolidate power. 'Continuously purchasing MLAs due to a lack of confidence in alliance partners that helped them form the government is a massive betrayal of the people,' he stated.

The Opposition leader also raised questions about the ruling party's intent to induct an individual facing allegations in a disproportionate assets case. He referred to a previous Assembly speech by the party's leader, where it was declared that public money would not be misused and that past wrongdoers would not be spared. 'Why then is the ruling party now attempting to induct someone embroiled in such a case?' Mr. Stalin asked. No official announcement regarding the induction had been made until late Monday evening.

Mr. Stalin further accused the ruling party of practicing 'washing machine politics' and warned that the people would teach them a lesson through the forced by-elections. 'Tamil Nadu is watching closely, and the public will respond appropriately,' he added.
