Tiruchi airport gets four new boarding bridges to ease passenger movement
The Tiruchi international airport has commissioned four additional Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) at its new integrated terminal building, marking a significant upgrade in passenger handling infrastructure.
The new boarding bridges, installed at Bays 13, 15, 17, and 19, were completed at a cost of ₹11.90 crore. Airport Director G. Gopalakrishnan inaugurated them on Wednesday, and they have been brought into operational use immediately.
These bridges provide a direct, covered connection from the terminal to aircraft, improving convenience and reducing the need for bus transfers or walking across the apron. The facility will particularly benefit senior citizens, passengers with reduced mobility, and wheelchair users, as well as protect all passengers from extreme heat and rain during boarding and disembarkation.
The new PBBs also cut down boarding and deboarding time, enhancing the overall travel experience. The airport now has nine operational boarding bridges out of a planned ten. During phase-I, five PBBs at Bays 11, 12, 14, 16, and 18 were installed. The new integrated terminal building has provision for 10 PBBs and 11 aircraft parking stands.
The Airports Authority of India said in a press release that it remains committed to continuously upgrading passenger facilities and providing a safe, comfortable, and world-class travel experience at the Tiruchi international airport.
