Hyderabad Ring Rail: Northern Section DPR Submitted, Southern Alignment Finalised Soon

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy announced on Sunday that the LiDAR survey for the proposed Regional Ring Rail (RRR) project around Hyderabad has been completed. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the northern section has been submitted, while the alignment for the southern section is in its final stage of finalisation.

Speaking to mediapersons at Vikarabad railway station, Reddy said the Final Location Survey (FLS) for the rail corridor proposed along the outer periphery of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) was sanctioned in 2023 for a stretch of about 400 km. The announcement comes as part of a broader update on railway infrastructure development in Telangana.

The Minister was at Vikarabad to review redevelopment works being undertaken at the railway station under the Centre's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The ₹24.35-crore project includes construction of a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge, station building upgrades, platform improvements, escalators, better parking facilities, and an enhanced circulating area aimed at improving passenger convenience and accessibility.

Reddy noted that Vikarabad is among 40 railway stations in Telangana being redeveloped under the scheme at a total cost exceeding ₹2,000 crore. The station handles nearly 15,000 passengers daily and witnesses the movement of about 60 trains every day. He directed officials to complete the works by the end of the year.

Highlighting the Centre's focus on strengthening transport infrastructure in the region, the Minister said Vikarabad records one of the highest volumes of rail travel in the State after Kazipet and Khammam. He also claimed that railway projects worth nearly ₹80,000 crore are progressing across Telangana, with major works such as track doubling, tripling, and quadrupling gaining momentum.

Reddy further stated that 100% railway electrification has been achieved in Telangana. The Hyderabad-Siddipet-Jagtial rail corridor is under development, with services already operational up to Siddipet. The rail manufacturing unit being set up at Kazipet is 90% complete and is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon, he added.

The Minister also mentioned that high-speed rail links connecting Hyderabad with Bengaluru and Pune are being envisaged. Such projects, he said, could accelerate industrial growth, improve regional connectivity, and help ease traffic congestion. Five Vande Bharat Express trains are currently operating from Hyderabad and Secunderabad, connecting the twin cities with destinations such as Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Bengaluru, and Nagpur.
