Telangana's energy sector key to $3 trillion economy plan, says Deputy CM

Telangana's Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka has said the State government is strengthening the energy sector in line with its goal of transforming Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Speaking after inaugurating Power Exhibition–2026 organised by the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) in Hyderabad on Saturday, he said the government was committed to providing the infrastructure required by the industrial sector, including uninterrupted power and water.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated that Telangana had emerged as one of the best investment destinations in the country. He invited industries and investors from across India to invest in the manufacturing and services sectors, assuring them of long-term policy support and robust infrastructure. He said long-term plans were being formulated to anticipate future energy requirements and enhance power generation and supply capacities through thermal, solar, hydel, pumped storage, and battery storage, among other avenues.

The Power Exhibition–2026 was organised to create awareness among the public, particularly students, about the achievements of the Energy Department, the reforms being introduced, and the use of modern technology in the sector. Vikramarka appreciated the services rendered by power utility employees, noting that although their work might not always be visible, their contribution was vital to the State's development.

Despite a significant increase in power demand, the government has been able to ensure uninterrupted power supply without major difficulties, the Deputy Chief Minister said. He highlighted that consumer problems were being resolved quickly through the 1912 toll-free service and 'Power Ambulances', which are emergency response units for power-related issues.

The event was attended by Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Naveen Mittal, TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil, Managing Directors K. Varun Reddy (TGNPDCL) and D. Krishna Bhaskar (TG-Transco), along with other directors and senior officials of the Southern Discom.

The exhibit comes at a time when Telangana is positioning itself as a key contributor to India's broader economic ambitions. The State's focus on energy security is seen as critical to attracting investment and driving industrial growth. Officials said the exhibition would also help students and young professionals understand career opportunities in the energy sector.

The Deputy Chief Minister's remarks underscore the government's emphasis on aligning State policies with national economic targets. With a mix of conventional and renewable energy sources, Telangana aims to ensure reliable and sustainable power supply for its growing industrial base. The inclusion of pumped storage and battery storage in future plans reflects a shift towards grid stability and energy transition.

Industry experts say that for Telangana to achieve the $3 trillion economy target, the energy sector will need to grow at a significantly faster pace than the current national average. The government's proactive approach in showcasing technological advancements and reforms through public exhibitions is a step towards building public trust and encouraging stakeholder participation.
