Telangana Minister Announces Barrage-Cum-Bridge Projects on Krishna and Bhima Rivers
Minister for Animal Husbandry Vakiti Srihari on Monday said the Congress government is pursuing a planned approach to construct barrage-cum-bridge projects on the Krishna and Bhima rivers. He stated that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the proposed projects have been prepared in coordination with the Karnataka government.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Srihari criticised former public representatives from the Palamuru region for what he termed as political theatrics. He alleged that they had campaigned in Karnataka with the slogan “Water in Karnataka-Cracks in Telangana”, which he said was aimed at misleading the public rather than safeguarding farmers' interests.
The Minister claimed that leaders who advocated for water, funds and jobs during the Telangana movement remained silent when dams were constructed in Karnataka under the previous BRS government. He contended that the previous government neglected farmers dependent on the Jurala project and failed to explore measures like constructing barrage-cum-bridges for water storage, irrigation, and drinking water supply.
Mr. Srihari also criticised the previous government for allegedly neglecting the development of Jurala submergence villages, including Bhoothpur, Neddagam, Anugonda, Ankenpalli, and Dadampalli.
Urging former public representatives to refrain from misinformation, Mr. Srihari asserted that the government remains committed to protecting the interests of Palamuru farmers and advancing regional development.
