Telangana Electoral Roll Revision: 30% of Forms Flagged for Anomalies, Unmapped Voters

As part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, nearly a third of the state's electorate may come under scrutiny by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). The process, which involves distribution and collection of enumeration forms, has revealed that approximately 30% of the forms verified so far contain anomalies or refer to unmapped voters.

According to data available as of July 9, 2026, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have verified 66.66 lakh enumeration forms. Among these, over 20 lakh electors were found to be either unmapped or with discrepancies in the information provided. Specifically, around 18 lakh forms had anomalies, while close to 2 lakh concerned unmapped voters.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has identified 11 types of anomalies, including less than nine months gap between progeny, less than 15 years age gap between progeny and parent, less than 40 years age gap between elector and grandparent, different parent names between current and previous rolls, mapping with different relative types, and incorrect age differences. Unmapped voters are those whose names or relatives' names were not found in the previous SIR conducted in 2002.

District-wise, Ranga Reddy recorded the highest number of unmapped voters at over 22,000, while Nizamabad topped the list for anomalies with nearly 1.84 lakh. In percentage terms, Medchal Malkajgiri had the highest proportion of unmapped voters at 27% of verified forms, and Hyderabad had the highest ratio of anomalies at 57%.

Nine districts have achieved 100% distribution of forms, but digitisation and verification are still ongoing across the state.

Once the distribution and collection phase is complete, electors identified as unmapped or with anomalies will receive notices from EROs. The notice phase, scheduled from July 31 to September 28, will allow EROs to issue notices and hear claims and objections. Recipients must appear before the ERO with relevant documents to prove citizenship. The ECI has listed 11 approved documents for this purpose, excluding Aadhaar and Food Security Cards. Of these, nine are applicable in Telangana.
