15 children hurt as school bus overturns in Regidi mandal

At least 15 school children were injured when a school bus overturned near Tunivada village in Regidi mandal, under Rajam Assembly constituency, on the morning of Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The bus, belonging to Tamminaidu Schools in Palakonda, was travelling on a narrow rural road when it veered off and fell into adjoining paddy fields.

According to police, the driver lost control of the vehicle on a stretch that had been damaged by recent rains. The bus was carrying students to school at the time of the accident.

The injured children were immediately shifted to the Government Hospital in Rajam for treatment. Other students on the bus, who were unhurt, were sent home after being examined. The incident caused panic among parents and family members, many of whom rushed to the hospital to enquire about their children's condition.

District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy and Rajam MLA Kondru Muralimohan visited the hospital and spoke to the children and their families. They directed the doctors to provide the best possible care and to take all necessary measures for the quick recovery of the injured. Officials later said that the condition of all the injured children was stable.

Police have registered a case and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accident. They are also checking whether the bus was being driven in accordance with safety norms, including permissible speed and roadworthiness.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about the safety of school transportation in rural areas, where roads are often narrow, poorly maintained, and vulnerable to damage during the monsoon season. Parents and local residents have urged authorities to pay urgent attention to road repairs and to enforce stricter safety standards for vehicles ferrying school children.
