Tamil Nadu Police Sub-Inspector Caught Accepting ₹5,000 Bribe, Arrested by DVAC
A Special Sub-Inspector of the Alangayam Police Station in Tirupathur district has been arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a motorist. The arrest took place on Monday following a trap laid by the DVAC.
According to the DVAC, the complainant, identified as Manjunathan of Ambur, was involved in a road accident while driving his four-wheeler. The accused officer, Ramakrishnan, who is the Special Sub-Inspector in charge of Alangayam Police Station, allegedly demanded ₹5,000 from the complainant to send the vehicle for inspection by the Motor Vehicle Inspector and to release him on station bail.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, Manjunathan approached the DVAC’s Tirupathur detachment and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, officials registered a case and organised a trap operation on Monday. During the trap, Ramakrishnan was allegedly caught red-handed while receiving the bribe amount of ₹5,000 from the complainant.
The officer was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody. The DVAC has initiated further investigation into the matter. This case highlights the ongoing efforts by anti-corruption agencies to curb bribery and corruption within law enforcement agencies in Tamil Nadu.
