Tamil Nadu Minister Says Viral Video Shows Him Crushing Child's Medicine, Not Drugs

Tamil Nadu Minister for Human Resources Management D. Sarathkumar on Friday denied allegations that a viral video from an Indian Premier League (IPL) match showed him preparing to consume drugs. The video, which has been circulating on social media, appears to show the minister using a credit card to crush a white substance on a mobile phone screen.

Addressing the media, Mr. Sarathkumar said the video was recorded about two years ago and has been selectively shared to create a false impression. He explained that the substance was a tablet prescribed for his one-and-a-half-year-old child, who was refusing to take the medicine. The minister said his wife informed him that the child was spitting out the tablet, so he crushed it to mix with liquid for easier consumption.

“The video has been wrongly interpreted. Those who were present with me know what actually happened,” he said, adding that the clip was shared with “rumours” to damage his reputation.

The minister’s clarification comes amid growing scrutiny of public figures’ conduct on social media. No official complaint or investigation has been reported in connection with the video.
