Shiv Sena Corporator Arrested for Doctor Assault Seeks Bail, Cites Public Service

Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, arrested for allegedly assaulting a doctor and nurses at Dombivli civic hospital, has applied for bail. In his plea, Mhatre stated he had no personal grudge against the doctor and was acting in his capacity as a public representative to help citizens.

The bail application also cited Mhatre's health conditions, including that he has only one kidney and suffers from high blood pressure. On Monday, Mhatre and three associates were sent to judicial custody by a Thane court.

The Thane city police presented Mhatre via video conferencing, citing potential law and order problems if he were produced in person. The alleged assault occurred when Mhatre and his associates reportedly attacked a doctor and nursing staff at the hospital, leading to their arrest.

The court will hear the bail plea in due course. The incident has drawn attention to the safety of healthcare workers in India.
