RSS ideologue T.G. Mohandas faces backlash for remarks on shooting protesters, gangrape comments
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue T.G. Mohandas from Kerala has come under criticism after a video surfaced online in which he said he would have shot protesters at Jantar Mantar. The video was posted on his YouTube channel Pathrika on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
In the 30-minute video, Mohandas, a former head of the Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s intellectual cell, discussed how he would have handled student protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and other opposition groups against alleged irregularities in the NEET exam.
“I will impose a curfew in about a 4 square kilometre area around Jantar Mantar. Then I would announce thrice for the crowd to disperse. After that, I will shoot. People will scatter away and run for their lives. Some may die, some may suffer disabilities. Within four hours, the situation will be calm. Then I will collect the bodies and take them to hospitals,” he said.
In another video, Mohandas said secular women who participate in protests “enjoy being gangraped.” He stated, “Gangrapes will happen. In this case, there won’t be any complaints as these are people who like being raped. There are women who like being raped, especially leftists, secular, democratic and proletarians. Now if someone dies during this, they will turn the person into a martyr.”
The comments have drawn sharp reactions from political figures. Rajya Sabha MP A.A. Rahim, national president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), said the remarks would be “dealt with politically and legally.”
“This is an opinion which exposes the BJP, because the BJP leaders are making Mr. Mohandas say things which they believe in but cannot say openly in a society like Kerala. Such things are being said with a clear aim to spread divisions in society. The Supreme Court has in the past issued clear warnings against such hate speech. I have already sent the video to advocates to take the necessary legal action,” Rahim said.
On social media, the video has attracted both criticism and support. Some users condemned the remarks, while others expressed agreement with Mohandas’s views. As of Monday, no official statement from the RSS or BJP on the matter has been reported.
