RSS-affiliated women's group demands uniform national population policy, citing demographic changes

The Rashtra Sevika Samiti, the women's wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has adopted a resolution calling for a uniform national population policy applicable to all communities. The resolution was passed on Sunday at the organisation's Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha in Samalakha, chaired by Samiti chief V. Shantha Kumari.

The resolution expressed concern over what it termed as a 'population imbalance' in India, arguing that demographic changes among religious communities require a review of existing population policies. It cited data from the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, stating that the Hindu population's share declined from 84.68% in 1951 to 78.06% in 2015, while the Muslim population's share rose from 9.84% to 14.09% during the same period.

The organisation urged the central and state governments to enact stringent laws to curb illegal immigration, religious conversions and 'love jihad', strengthen border management, identify and deport illegal foreign nationals, and implement a uniform population policy. It also reiterated its demand for a Uniform Civil Code, arguing that such a measure would help address challenges from demographic imbalance.

Additionally, the resolution emphasised the need for education, women's empowerment and economic development across communities, while urging society to remain alert to demographic changes and their long-term consequences. Similar concerns have been raised by the RSS itself in resolutions passed in 2004 and 2015.
