Reunion Hopes Dashed: JD(U) Leaders Resist RCP Singh's Return, Cite Power Centre Concerns
Former Union Minister and Janata Dal (United) MP RCP Singh recently met with party chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, sparking speculation about a possible reconciliation and return to the party fold after four years. However, most senior JD(U) leaders are firm in their opposition to this move, according to party sources.
These leaders argue that the party's future should revolve around Nitish's son, Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar. A common refrain among them is that bringing Singh back would create two power centres within the party, potentially undermining unity.
Singh, who left the JD(U) in 2022 and unsuccessfully contested the 2024 general election on an RJD ticket, spoke warmly of his bond with Nitish Kumar after their meeting. 'I have known Nitish Kumar for 25 years. Nobody can fully understand this relationship. I still consider him my guardian. He was very happy to see me; the radiance on his face said it all,' Singh told the media. Asked about a possible return to the party, he added, 'I have always been with him.'
Singh also praised Nishant Kumar, saying, 'He has always been “Nishi” to me. I am very happy to see him doing well. We have shared a very close bond.'
The meeting has generated buzz, but the strong resistance from top party leaders suggests that Singh's return remains unlikely in the near future. The JD(U) has not issued any official statement on the matter.
