Rampur Authority Orders Demolition of 38 Buildings at Azam Khan's University
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has condemned the demolition notice issued by the Rampur Development Authority (RDA) for 38 out of 40 buildings at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, calling it a 'biased, vindictive and unjust' action.
The RDA issued the notice on Wednesday, claiming that the buildings were constructed without permission from the competent authority. The university is run by the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, chaired by jailed former Uttar Pradesh minister and senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan.
The AIMPLB urged the Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw the demolition notice, arguing that it unfairly targets the institution. The SP, led by Akhilesh Yadav, also called the move 'unjustified' and alleged that the university was being 'selectively targeted'.
Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, located in Rampur, was established in 2006. The demolition notice has sparked a political controversy, with opposition parties accusing the state government of targeting political rivals.
As of now, the Uttar Pradesh government has not officially responded to the allegations. The RDA maintains that the action is based on violations of building bylaws and is not politically motivated.
